Event-Driven Billing Platform for Cloud Provider
Built a high-throughput, event-driven billing and usage metering platform processing millions of events per day with sub-second aggregation and real-time customer dashboards.
Industry

Engagement model
Platform build covering event pipeline design, pricing engine implementation, and production reliability practices.
Millions
usage events processed per day
Near real time
rating and reconciliation latency
Audit-ready
billing traceability model
The existing billing system relied on nightly batch processing, causing invoice inaccuracies and customer disputes. The platform needed to handle 50 million usage events daily with real-time cost visibility, supporting complex pricing models including tiered, usage-based, and commitment-based billing.
Client context: A cloud and telecom provider needed a billing platform capable of ingesting and rating high-volume usage events with auditability and pricing flexibility.
We designed an event-sourced architecture with Kinesis Data Streams for ingestion, Golang workers for real-time aggregation into DynamoDB, and a React-based customer dashboard powered by a GraphQL API. The system uses exactly-once processing semantics to ensure billing accuracy.
Event model
Defined canonical usage events, idempotency strategy, and reconciliation flows.
Pricing engine
Built flexible rating paths to support evolving commercial packages.
Reliability controls
Added observability, replay support, and operational checks around billing correctness.
Go-live
Staged rollout with validation against legacy billing outputs and finance stakeholder review.
Processing 50M+ events daily with p99 latency under 200ms
Customer billing disputes reduced by 94%
Real-time cost dashboards with sub-second refresh
Supports 12 distinct pricing model configurations
